What Is Retatrutide?
Retatrutide is an investigational medication currently being studied for weight management and metabolic health. It belongs to a new class of drugs known as triple-hormone receptor agonists, designed to mimic several natural hormones involved in appetite, blood sugar regulation, and energy balance.
How Does Retatrutide Work?
Retatrutide is designed to activate three different hormone receptors at the same time:
-
GLP-1 receptors- Help reduce appetite, slow stomach emptying, and improve blood sugar control.
-
GIP receptors- Support insulin response and may enhance metabolic regulation.
-
Glucagon receptors- Influence energy expenditure and fat metabolism.
By combining these effects, researchers aim to create stronger weight-loss and metabolic benefits compared to earlier medications that target only one hormone pathway.
Potential Benefits?
-
Significant body-weight reduction in some study participants
-
Improved blood sugar levels
-
Reduced appetite and calorie intake
-
Changes in energy balance that may support fat loss
Side Effects and Safety Considerations?
As with many hormone-based metabolic drugs, reported side effects may include:
-
Nausea or digestive discomfort
-
Vomiting or diarrhoea
-
Reduced appetite
recommended dosing schedule?
Estimated Half-Life is Approximately 5–7 days!
Why it matters:
• Supports once-weekly dosing in studies
• Helps maintain stable drug levels over time
• Effects can last several days after an injection
Steady state is the point where the amount of medication entering the body equals the amount being cleared.
Steady state is usually reached after about 4–5 half-lives of a medication.
-
Approximately 4–8 weeks after starting consistent weekly dosing
It is commonly recommended to begin with a 1 mg weekly dose and allow the body enough time to reach steady state before considering an increase to 2 mg weekly.
Each time the dose is increased, it is important to allow the body to reach steady state again before making any further adjustments. This gradual approach helps maintain stable drug levels and improves tolerability.
Dose escalation is not always necessary. If you have found a “sweet spot” where you are experiencing steady weight loss without significant negative side effects, remaining at that dose may be appropriate rather than continuing to increase.
Our pens have an adjustable dosage range of 1-8mg, and have a shelf life of 12-18 month.
